Super Bowl XLV Seating Problems Lead to Class Action Lawsuit

According to Pro Football Talk, several Super Bowl XLV attendees with displaced seats filed a class action lawsuit in Dallas. The plaintiffs consist of Steve Simms, who represents 400 fans who had purchased tickets but received no seats, Mike Dolabi, who represents the Cowboys’ season-ticket holders who purchased $1,200 Super Bowl tickets but received fold out chairs with substandard view, and Wes Lewis, who represents ticket-holders who were relocated or completely displaced from their seats due to incomplete installation of temporary seats which were deemed unsafe by fire officials. The lawsuit names the Dallas Cowboys, owner Jerry Jones and the National Football League as defendants. The suit seeks compensatory and punitive damages, along with triple damages under the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act. Los Lunas Penitentiary Prisoners File Class Action Lawsuit

According to KOB, New Mexico prisoners are alleging sexual abuse and sexual humiliation at the hands of several Los Lunas Penitentiary officials. A prisoner identified only as J.O and on behalf of other similarly situated individuals filed a class action lawsuit in the Thirteenth Judicial District Court, County of Valencia. The class action lawsuit names former prison director Donald Dorsey, Warden Anthony Romero and various John Doe correctional officers as the alleged perpetrators. According to the class action lawsuit, Romero and correctional officers forced up to 75 prisoners to strip down to their underwear at gunpoint. The prisoners were forced to sit with their genitals touching the backs of the man in front of them, according to court documents. Orlando Homeowners Settle Class Action Lawsuit

According to Miami Herald, homeowners in a southeast Orlando subdivision have settled a class action lawsuit against The Ryland Group for $1.2 million. Homeowners alleged the homebuilder did not disclose that the homes were built on or near the Pinecastle Jeep Range. The area is home to a World War II-era bombing range. The area was being used as a bombing range starting in 1943, when the government leased 12,483 acres of land to be used as gunnery and demonstration range. It was used for troop instruction in methods of tactical bombing, air-to-ground rocket firing and high explosive bombing. Since July 2007, the Army Corps of Engineers has removed more than 14 tons of bombing debris from the range. Local reports include discovery of munitions and bombs having been discovered in the residential and school areas near the bombing range. California Zip Code Class Action Lawsuits

According to Reuters, the California Supreme Court ruled that retailers cannot ask consumers for ZIP codes in order to complete a transaction and that such action violates a California consumer privacy law and the state’s Song-Beverly Credit Card Act. Class action lawsuits have been filed against several California retailers, including Williams-Sonoma and Tiffany & CO alleging the retailers violated state laws by asking for customer zip codes. Jessica Pineda, a California resident, filed a lawsuit against Williams-Sonoma after the cashier asked her for her zip code. Pineda provided the information believing it was required in order to purchase items. Pineda was unaware that the store’s computer software matched her name and zip code with her previously undisclosed address in order to market products, lawsuit alleges.
